SoHum.live launch

The idea for an on-line platform for creative development in Southern Humboldt began in the Summer of 2024, as the Redwood Playhouse hosted the Phoenix Rising production, the local newspaper was faltering, and the economy was in steep decline.


Why do geese in flight honk?

Geese vocalize as a group to maintain flock cohesion and coordinate movements within their flight formation.


Getting our ducks in a row as a community that values creativity means we need to be working on the details. Importantly we should be communicating with each other, and the rest of the world to cohesively promote what we have to offer.


Because this was originally conceived as a full feature independent social media site, which would carry some overhead costs, some "market research" was in order, and soliciting input began. Months later, participation has not been overwhelming. Those who did respond to the survey you'll find elsewhere…

The first iteration of the concept is now available for use.

Everyone who hears about this thinks it is a good idea. in order to actualize this good idea, people have to play along.


the for profit social media platforms have our culture in their thrall, with ongoing trials about monopolies and manipulation that prey on our attention spans to monetize an addiction to the pleasure that social interaction can create.


the potential for interaction and exchange of information doesn't need to be controlled by corporate gate keepers, but weaning ourselves off the established treadmill of algorithmic feeds will require a leap of faith.


and more importantly: participation!

Create a profile and make some relevant posts. invite other artists, writers, musicians, poets, dancers, actors, photographers, crafters, etc...to join in. check in from time time, and post again. once a critical mass is gained it may be a thing.
